The first Hindi Day was celebrated on September 14, 1953, when the then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru decided to celebrate this day as Hindi Day (Diwas). On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly accepted Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of India.

National Hindi Day (Diwas) of India, is celebrated on 14 September because, on this day, it is the birthday of Beohar Rajendra Singh, who played an important role in the direction of making Hindi the official language of India.

As a result of this, on his 50th birthday i.e. on 14 September 1949, Hindi was accepted as the official language.

Long struggle to make Hindi the national language

Rajendra Singh also had a very good hold on Sanskrit, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Urdu, English etc., but still he struggled a long time to make Hindi the national language.

After independence, Beohar Rajendra Singh made tireless efforts to establish Hindi as the national language, along with writers like Kaka Kalelkar, Maithilisharan Gupta, Hazariprasad Dwivedi, Mahadevi Verma, Seth Govinddas etc. Due to this, he also made many trips to South India and persuaded people for this.

पहला हिंदी दिवस 14 सितंबर, 1953 को मनाया गया था, जब भारत के तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने इस दिन को हिंदी दिवस के रूप में मनाने का फैसला किया था. 14 सितंबर 1949 को संविधान सभा ने देवनागरी लिपि में हिंदी को भारत की आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किया था.

 देश भर में हिंदी भाषा और इसके उपयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए हर साल 14 सितंबर को हिंदी दिवस मनाया जाता है. हिंदी भारत की ऑफिशियल लैंग्वेज (Official Language) है. इसके अलावा हिंदी भाषा फिजी, न्यूजीलैंड, सिंगापुर, मॉरीशस जैसे अन्य देशों में भी काफी लोकप्रिय है.

इस दिन को सेलिब्रेट करने के लिए स्कूल, कॉलेज और अन्य शैक्षणिक संस्थानों में कई तरह के कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जाता है.हालांकि क्या आप जानते हैं कि हिंदी दिवस कब 14 सितंबर को ही क्यों मनाया जाता है. अगर नहीं, तो आइये आज हम आपको इसके पीछे की वजह बताते हैं. 

राष्ट्रीय हिंदी दिवस 14 सितंबर को इसलिए मनाया जाता है क्योंकि, इस दिन व्यौहार राजेन्द्र सिंह का जन्मदिन होता है, जिन्होंने हिन्दी को भारत की राजभाषा बनाने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी. इसी के परिणामस्वरूप उनके 50वें जन्मदिन पर यानी 14 सितम्बर 1949 को, हिन्दी को राजभाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किया गया था.

हिंदी को राष्ट्रभाषा बनाने के लिए किया लंबा संघर्ष


राजेन्द्र सिंह का संस्कृत, बांग्ला, मराठी, गुजराती, मलयालम, उर्दू, अंग्रेजी आदि पर भी बहुत अच्छी पकड़ थी, लेकिन फिर भी हिंदी को ही राष्ट्रभाषा बनाने के लिए उन्होंने लंबा संघर्ष किया था. स्वतंत्रता प्राप्ति के बाद हिन्दी को राष्ट्रभाषा के रूप में स्थापित करवाने के लिए काका कालेलकर, मैथिलीशरण गुप्त, हजारीप्रसाद द्विवेदी, महादेवी वर्मा, सेठ गोविन्ददास आदि साहित्यकारों को साथ लेकर व्यौहार राजेन्द्र सिंह ने अथक प्रयास किए थे. इसके चलते उन्होंने दक्षिण भारत की भी कई यात्राएं कीं और लोगों को इसके लिए मनाया.
